Diane Dawson graduated in Fine Art Painting and Printmaking from Glasgow School of Art in 2010.
Since then, she has exhibited in a number of group showa, most recently as part of the RSA New Contemporaries.
For this exhibition, she has concentrated on working in print as a method to explore her ares of interest.
For Showtime, Diane has combined a number of topics that continue to dominate her practice, mainly those which focus on habitats and society. The images and scenes found in her work are often a hybrid of zoology and anthropology. In the exploration of habitats there is a specific contrast between social housing and animal enclosures, and the idea of each providng a 'stage set' for the the inhabitants.
The prints exhibited here explore the relationship between the built enviroment and the emotional impact of group behaviour, and furthermore, the idea of our own habitat or stage set being the starting point for how we perform within society. It is a very human tendency to perform in a way which is expected of us and much of this is dependent on our habitat, natural or unnatural.
Diane uses animals, to quite literally mirror behaviour consistent with human society and the prints in the exhibition present a combination of performers. Using a format which suggests the tourist's snapshot, the exhibition Showtime combines observation, nostalgia and celebration.
